Reality TV shows has indeed made domination in every major TV screen
since the beginning of the 21st century, and nobody can ever deny
how far it had come, as well as its popularity among various demographics.
There are a lot of reality TV shows today and it looks like mostly are coming
from reality dancing or singing based competition. Among the earlier regarded
TV show is the American Idol. It’s now on its 12th season and has
been on the mainstream for pretty much 12 years already. During its earlier
years, it was among the favorite show on primetime television but as it ascends
year after year, it looks like a lot of fans have snapped out of the addiction!
American Idol, by simply looking through the name it
somehow inspires people to do everything just to be America’s ultimate singing
idol. But now it should have been named as American Idle! It’s a shame why it
got huge and massive ratings for the past couple of years! American TV will
never give out PBS or any other decent cable channel a fight in the class game.
We all know well that except for The Simpsons there are some other precious
shows (a few of them) that have any semblance of intellect.
After a couple of years of following through each AI season, I have
noticed myself getting madder and madder with every season finale announcement
of the winner!
What’s really and absolutely apoplectic here is how the program has gone
more than being a mere talent show and is now grooming itself up as a
"tastemaker". A few years back, there was this show called Ted Mack's
Amateur Hour. It’s on a radio and then moved on to the TV streams, which lasted
for years. In it are a number of people from all across the borders of the
region who would sing, whistle, dance or even play Sing Me Something app. People then
will make their votes and there would be a winner. The winners usually come
back to their little town they’re raised at and never heard from them again.
Some, however, really became professionals. Pat Boone would be the best example
for this. Wow, even then really sucky "talents" became big stars.
Travelling back to the 70s, a show called Gong Show. Again, people would
simply come in and make the most shocking things and win. The
"judges" (typically celebs who are hacked) would "gong" the
participant off the show. You’d watch to see the really awful acts.
American Idol is pretty much a mix of both. So, it's basically not an
original idea but this is so much worse than them. You see, the winners will
then be signed to Simon Cowell's managing deal and sing the songs that Simon
Cowell will set on his own label. What’s really pissing off is that people (are
astoundingly and surprisingly buy the record labels! Talk about idiosyncrasy! The irony of people
who got fooled by such an amateur show; it ruins one’s life and it’s full of
quackery!
